'Black Panther,' 'Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' & Emily Blunt Big 2019 SAG Awards Winners [Full List]
The 2019 Screen Actor's Guild Awards were handed out Sunday night in Los Angeles and the big winner was, surprisingly, "Black Panther" which took home the best cast ensemble prize; SAG-AFTRA's equivalent of the Best Picture award. This is the second major guild honor that has gone to a different film after "Geen Book" took the PGA Award. If "Roma's" Alfonso Cuaron (or "BlacKkKlansman's" Spike Lee) wins the DGA Award it may come down to the BAFTA honor for any film to earn some true momentum for Best Picture.
Other big winners included Rami Malek for "Bohemian Rhapsody,"Glenn Close for "The Wife," andMahershala Ali for"Green Book" which seems to bode well for their own Oscar chances. In a major surprise,Emily Blunt won Best Supporting Actress for "A Quiet Place," a performance that did not earn her an Academy Award nomination. At this point, the Oscar for Supporting Actress is still in flux, but no one should discount the chances of "If Beale Street Could Talk's" Regina King who was snubbed by SAG.
On the television side, the actors showed how much love they adored"The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" by awarding it best Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series, Female Actor in a Comedy Series (Rachel Brosnahan) and Male Actor in a Comedy Series (Tony Shalhoub)."This Is Us" took the Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama Series, as expected, while "Ozark's" Jason Bateman surprised in the Male Actor in a Drama Series category.Sandra Oh duplicated her Golden Globe win by taking Female Actor in a Drama Series for "Killing Eve." Patricia Arquette and Darren Criss were also repeat Globe winners for their roles in "Escape At Dannemora" and "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story," respectively.
